Fire Safety Knowledge - Escape and Self-Rescue Basics
  1. When a fire breaks out, escape quickly; do not linger to retrieve belongings.
  2. Family members should be familiar with basic fire escape methods and several escape routes.
  3. When threatened by fire, immediately put on wet clothing or bedding and rush towards the nearest exit.
  4. When escaping through heavy smoke, stay close to the ground and cover your mouth and nose with a wet towel.
  5. If your clothes catch fire, do not run. Roll on the ground or use a thick garment to smother the flames.
  6. Do not use elevators in a fire; escape towards the nearest exit.
  7. If a fire is raging outside and the door is hot, do not open it to prevent the fire from spreading inside. Use wet bedding, clothing, etc., to block doors and windows, and pour water to cool them down.
  8. If all escape routes are blocked by fire, immediately retreat indoors, use a flashlight, wave clothing, shout for help, etc., to send a distress signal out of the window, and wait for rescue.
  9. Never jump from a building. Use escape routes such as fire stairs, balconies, or drainpipes, or tear bedsheets or duvet covers into strips to create a rope, tie it securely to a window frame or railing, and slide down to a lower, unburned floor to escape danger.
